like half the world, i went to see the latest installment of the Indiana Jones series this weekend. while i'm hearing ickiness from some people, i must confess:
i had a good time. why?
-recognizing the sign at the entrance of area 51
-knowing the warehouse was where the government had hidden the Ark of the Covenant and then getting that glimpse
-the fedora
-the whip
-the quips
-recognizing the town from those atomic blast films
-Cate Blanchett was so much fun! a mix of Greta Garbo and the female russian spy that used to hit on Colonel Hogan...

-this time it was ants
-the idea that extra-terrestrial skeletons are made of crystal...waaaay cool
-Shia's swagger
-Karen Allen wasn't screaming each time she was onscreen, and her face wasn't botoxed within an inch of its life
yes, there were problems with the story. yes, the ending was a bit, REALLY Steven Spielberg??? that's REALLY what you think we wanna see at the end of this movie??? and, later, as i thought about the film, i thought, REALLY Harrison Ford??? THIS was the script that FINALLY excited you after all these years?? the other ones must have REALLY sucked...

i had a conversation with Corey last week about this movie. i was kinda joking when i said i hoped it wasn't like the opposite of the Star Trek movies. i hoped it wasn't...the first one (Raiders) was sooo great, and the third one (Last Crusade) was sooo great, and i really didn't like the second one (Temple of Doom)...and, wouldn't it be cool if we could just skip the second and the fourth to get to the great one...the fifth and final installment of Indiana Jones? turns out for me that it wasn't THAT bad.
i had a good time spending time with Indy again. it was fun. it wasn't fantastic. i will definitely watch it again and have a good time, which is all you really want from two hours in a summer movie theater, isn't it?
